Lucy and Angel made sure we were looked after before, during, and even after our stay, with advice on local footpaths and later hotel transfers. They were welcoming and knew the area well. The charming rooms have comfortable, beautifully restored furniture, and the grounds are lovely, with a pool and hillside views. Food was a highlight too, from breakfast to creative picnic lunches and dinners, including Iberian pork in chocolate sauce. It’s a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Thanks for taking such good care of us, Lucy and Angel.

Right from before we arrived until the goodbye hug, Angel and Lucy took great care of us. Angel’s enthusiasm and local knowledge helped us get more from the area, while Lucy’s breakfasts and dinners were superb. The hotel is beautiful, spotless, thoughtfully designed, and serious about sustainable practices. Our spacious room opened onto a quiet private terrace and garden with hill views. Posada San Marcos is on the edge of the village, with trails starting right outside. If you love walking and authentic local food, it’s a great place to stay. We’ll be back as soon as we can.

We only had a short stay with Lucy & Angel, but Posada San Marcos made a real impression. Its focus on responsible tourism and locally sourced products was something we especially appreciated. Breakfast always brought something different, and Lucy’s set dinners on the outdoor terrace were a delight. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and full of local character. We also enjoyed our patio, the garden and pool, and a relaxing drink from the well-stocked honesty bar. Angel shared loads of helpful information about Sierra de Aracena, which made our hikes and the places we visited more rewarding. We’d have booked one of his personally guided tours with more time, so that’s for next visit. We stayed at three hotels during our week exploring part of the Sierra, and Posada San Marcos was our clear favorite. We’d happily recommend it as a base for exploring this beautiful part of Spain.

Our three nights at Hotel Posada San Marcos were the highlight of our 11 nights in this part of Spain. Lucy’s cooking was incredible, and we were lucky to enjoy it at breakfast, picnic lunch, and dinner each day. Lucy and Angel put so much care into the hospitality, food, and service. The hotel feels like a little haven in the beautiful countryside around Alajar and the Sierra Aracena. We can’t wait to return.

Angel and Lucy were such welcoming hosts, offering all the information we needed. Their small hotel has just six rooms and has been lovingly restored. Our first-floor room looked over the garden from its balcony, with pergolas shading the pool and a small pond below. The house is full of character, and details from the restoration have been put to practical or decorative use. The village streets are narrow, with limited parking, and once we found a space we left the car and walked. The hotel is tucked away in the quiet village center, with excellent walks all around. Lucy’s picnic lunches were wonderful. Everything is home-cooked and local, from garden lemons and walnuts to Iberico ham and pork from nearby pigs, village bread and cheese. It’s simple, rustic food. There isn’t much choice for eating out on weekday evenings, so all the guests joined Lucy for her three-course dinners. It felt like staying with friends.
