Hotel Reconquista

The balcony was a real highlight. It gets sun from morning through late afternoon, and the view was stunning. We sat out there after long days of walking around. I don't usually pay extra for a view, but I understand the appeal now. Even though our room was near the bridge, it was surprisingly quiet. We heard a little noise from upstairs once and next door once, but that's pretty normal in Spanish hotels, and we didn't need the earplugs we bring along. We'd checked parking availability with the hotel before arriving, then drove straight into the underground garage. Its entrance is on Calle l'Estrambrera, reached via Calle Balmes. There are about 17 wide spaces and access was easy. We noticed three free spaces on the street, but chose the €13 per night garage for our four-night stay so the car would be protected from knocks. For us, the peace of mind was worth it. The location was also ideal for exploring. Before the trip, the hotel replied to my non-urgent questions right away, even late at night, which I appreciated. Check-in and check-out were both quick, and a friendly young woman handled them. Our room was larger than expected, clean, and had a comfortable bed, a useful fridge, and an air conditioning unit that looked new. The temperature was already just right from September 25 to 29, so we didn't use it. The bathroom had great shower pressure, bright lighting, and a huge mirror over the sink. There was also a full-length mirror in the hallway. The blackout curtains helped, though they hung a bit loose and didn't cover every bit of the window. A toilet brush would be a useful addition. The building and rooms are dated, and there are signs of wear: imperfect paint and small maintenance quirks, including a balcony door that takes a certain knack to close. Still, everything worked, which was what mattered to us. I'd rather pay the current rate for Hotel Reconquista as it is than a lot more for a renovated version. The parking and location, which was perfect for us, made the stay excellent value.

The room had paper-thin walls, so we could hear the neighbors talking and coughing. There was hair left in the bathroom, and barely enough power outlets. The staff were friendly, but that didn't make the stay much better. Food was a letdown too. We tried to find something during siesta, but in this town it's basically impossible between 4 and 8 pm. We even had to negotiate to get a bag of chips for our kid. Later, the hotel restaurant served us a fruit salad that turned out to be one lonely sliced apple. Breakfast the next morning was just as limited, so don't arrive hungry. The location is great and the AC worked, but the hotel feels stuck somewhere between 1987 and a half-hearted renovation. It's usable if all you need is a bed, provided you bring breakfast, earplugs, and an extra socket or two.

The town and hotel were both a pleasant surprise during our bicycle trip. I was able to change my original booking without any trouble, and the receptionist was efficient, kind, and helpful. They also gave us a secure locked room for the bikes. Our balcony had a table and chairs overlooking the bridge and town. Dinner and breakfast were very good, and the price was fantastic. The hotel is in a brilliant location, with good food and excellent staff. Highly recommended.

We've stayed at Reconquista regularly over many years and have never been disappointed. The staff always make us feel welcome, and there's a secure indoor place for our bicycles every time. The rooms are spacious and spotless, and the sound insulation is good. We always sleep well here. Prices are very competitive when you book directly with the hotel, and we'll gladly come back.
