Hotel Mayerling

The staff really made this stay feel special. When I mentioned that my boyfriend's birthday fell during our trip, they surprised us with chocolate. They were kind and attentive throughout, and seemed to care about all the little details. We found the room spotless, with everything working and the bathroom stocked with shower gel and shampoo. There was coffee, tea, and milk available around the clock, sometimes with desserts, and we liked having a shared kitchen and fridge. The location was hard to beat, and for the price we had an unforgettable stay and are already thinking of coming back. The TV was on the small side and the shower felt a bit cramped, but those things didn't take away from the stay.

Getting around was easy: the hotel is a short walk from the city center, with good bus and metro links. The internet was fast, staff were friendly and helpful, and we could leave our bags in the lobby for a few hours after checkout. There was always coffee, tea, and water there too. The room and the rest of the hotel felt worn. The bathroom and WC doors didn't close properly, and there weren't enough outlets. The layout was especially awkward, with the washbasin in the room, a tiny WC, and a bathroom window facing the room behind a transparent curtain. None of it offered much sound privacy. Breakfast wasn't great quality, though at 8 Euros it might be worth the price.

Even with construction going on outside, we didn't hear it in the room and slept peacefully. Our room was large and clean when we arrived, though the shower was built into the room itself, which might not suit everyone. There was also free coffee in the shared main area. The staff were warm and polite, and the hotel is good value for a budget stay. Plaza Mayor is only a short walk away, as are Madrid's other attractions. I'd recommend staying here.

The front desk was helpful, and the staff were really nice. Great location too.
