VIVA Sunrise

We chose a studio apartment for our first holiday in Mallorca and got a stunning mountain-facing view, especially at sunset. The room had everything we needed, from shampoo to a fully stocked kitchen, and the bathroom was lovely. That overhead shower felt brilliant after a sunny day out. We hadn't expected adult activities to be such a highlight. There was rifle shooting, football and darts during the day, and the evening programme included quizzes or music. At 9 p.m. we could grab a reasonably priced drink from the sports bar and watch. A big shout-out to Brian and Selma, the animators while we were there. Bar staff were also fabulous and upbeat, and the cleaning team kept refreshing our room to a very high standard. Viva Sunrise suited us very well as a couple, and would work for families too. We visited in October, when there were plenty of children around, but it wasn't too noisy or disruptive. There are several pools, lots of loungers and good gym facilities. A few people did bring young children into the gym and let them use machines unsupervised. There's no designated hotel parking, but plenty of free street parking nearby. We went self-catering, so can't comment on the food. The hotel is ideally placed, with plenty of shops, restaurants and the beach close by. We had a fantastic time with no issues and would definitely return.

The food was tasty and served hot, unlike at many all-inclusive places. Getting a selection room with a plunge pool is absolutely worth it, as it also gives access to the oasis area with its heated infinity pool. This is an amazing hotel, the first in Majorca where I'd give it more stars rather than fewer.

We gave this hotel one star because our room, which faced the canal and had a bedroom, living room, bathroom and pantry, smelled horribly of damp and mold. We told reception and were moved, but the smell in the second room was almost worse. The staff were friendly and offered two free meals for our family of two adults and an 18-month-old, but that didn't make up for sleeping in rooms with such a bad smell. Given the strong reviews, we were really surprised by the room's condition: broken furniture and a nasty odor. It felt nowhere near four stars. We did enjoy the pool area, and thought the restaurants were okay. The location suited us perfectly, with nice restaurants nearby, a short walk to the beach and a manageable walk to the port. Still, none of that made up for the state of the rooms. We had a lovely week in Alcudia and would like to return, just not to this hotel.

Just got home after a week here. The hotel was brilliant, with clean, spacious rooms and lovely food. It's the best place I've stayed.
