Hostal Mont Royal

The food and drinks were really good, and so were the staff. On our first night we arrived quite late, but a staff member met us and was superb, even though she didn't speak English and we know very little Spanish. Our basic room was clean and spacious enough for what we wanted and paid. There was a little evening noise, possibly because our room was on the ground floor. We were using the nearby IVF clinic, and we'd definitely come back to this pleasant hotel.

We booked the cheapest rooms and were happy with them. The bed was nice, the shower was good, and it was very quiet. Fantastic price, lovely staff, and the restaurant next door is excellent.

The room was in the basement, but it had a window and didn't feel cramped or underground. It was very clean, with a fabulous walk-in shower, and housekeeping made it up each day while we were out. We had a private double room, so it felt more like a hotel than a hostel. It's close to Playa de San Juan, about a 15-minute walk to the beach, and the bus to Alicante city centre costs just €1,45. There are two bar-restaurants right next door, both run by the hostal's family, and an area with lots of shops, restaurants, and bars is a 10-minute walk away. Great location and very good value for our holiday.

The beaches are within walking distance, whether you prefer a private one or not, and transport makes it easy to get around the Costa. This place suits people who are independent and make up their own minds. I’d recommend it to some of my friends, though not everyone. Hopefully I’ll be back. 4 stars.
