Gran Hotel del Coto

We spent a week here on vacation with family. The hotel was nice, though clearly not outstanding. The bedrooms felt a little empty, but they were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was complete, though I wished there’d been a wider choice of fruit. We might come back for that marvellous beach and sea!

We booked full board for four people for two nights, but were given just one key card, and it was only activated for one night. The rooms were basic, nothing special. At the restaurant, there were few staff members, if any, to clear used plates and set the tables for the next guests. Two of the three pools were closed, leaving the only open pool packed like sardines. There wasn’t much else to the hotel.

There’s a big hotel in the middle of nowhere, with little to see nearby. The beach is dirty and far away, there are no attractions, and the town is also far. Getting to the beach was difficult. In town, the beach is different and clean, but at the hotel there’s no space set aside for guests, so you have to sit on the sand and bring your own chair. It was too noisy and chaotic when lots of excursions arrived. The food was horrible and almost the same throughout the eight days we were there. The staff, though, were very polite and the service was nice.

The hotel is very nice and well located, and the full-board food was great. But drinks were very expensive. You can’t bring water into the restaurant, even if you bought it there at the previous meal. A one-liter bottle, for example, costs 2.70 euros. The best pool is unavailable and empty. It’s like being shown a lobster dish in a restaurant and then told you can’t eat it because the local government won’t allow it. It’s really frustrating. There are also very few free parking spots nearby, with everything around run as a business by hotels or the local government. Make the big pool available again and add an all-inclusive option, and I’ll change my vote to five stars.
