Finca Ses Fontanelles

Dinner was a real treat, three lovely courses served outside at shared tables. Breakfast was good too, with bread, jam, cheese, fruit, huge mugs, and an amazing coffee machine. We stayed in the finca dormitory and had a great time. Patrick was welcoming and friendly, though do stick to his rules, including arriving within the stated check-in hours. The place is beautiful and very clean, with well-spaced beds, indoor and outdoor seating, and plenty of sockets for charging. Thanks, Patrick, for a great stay.

The finca itself is lovely, but after a long day hiking, arriving here and being insulted or turned away by the host was awful. It feels like he cares about money, and if a guest doesn't meet his expectations, he'll insult them and even send them away. That's a strange way to treat people. This is the only refuge in the area, with a long walk to another refuge or village, especially after coming all the way from Port d’Andratx. If he doesn't like hosting people, he should stop taking guests or close the finca. Nobody wants that kind of welcome after a hard hike.

I booked the 12-bed room since I was hiking on my own, and for a mountain trip this place feels almost luxurious. The house and grounds were clean and tidy, and I felt very comfortable. The shower only had cold water, but I didn't mind, it got the circulation going in my tired body. Dinner was unbelievably good, better than plenty of restaurants. Hats off to Patrick and his wife.

The dinner was fantastic, and breakfast was decent, with good coffee and a much better spread than at the public refugis. Breakfast at 0730 and checkout at 0900 felt a little early, so I would've liked more flexibility. There are a few more house rules than some might expect, though they seemed sensible. We were welcomed warmly, and the property and guesthouse are amazing, clearly cared for with love. We booked the double room a few weeks ahead, after finding the refugio full, even though we were doing the GR221 from north to south and this was one of our last nights. Two very friendly, cuddly cats are allowed in the common areas. The dogs were kept apart from guests in the owners' private area.
