Marie Carmen welcomed our group of five so warmly, and check-in was efficient. We had stunning views and a lovely pool, shared with mountain goats who came down for a drink in the evening and again the next morning. What a bonus. Dinner was an out-of-this-world pork steak from blackfoot pigs in Arcena, Andalucia, fed on acorns. A great base for visiting El Torcal, Parque de Lobos, and Antequera.

The owner was so friendly, and we really enjoyed the delicious breakfasts and dinners. There are lots of charming little details around the hotel. We had a couple of drawbacks: no cell phone reception, and the bed was only 1.35m wide. The mattress was good, but it felt too small for my partner and me since we're both quite tall. Still, everything else was wonderful and I'd highly recommend it.

If hiking and mountain scenery are what you're after, this is an ideal spot. It's a two-star hotel, and that's what it is. I stayed last year too, and brought a standing fan this August because the rooms get hot even with a ceiling fan. The mountain goats that used to come drink at the pool are gone now. They've fenced off the area to plant fruit trees, which I think was a mistake. Watching the goats by the pool was a big attraction for families, and we loved it. The service was good, the breakfast was delicious with local products, and cleanliness was generally adequate.
