Beverly Hills Heights

During our 10 days at Ona Beverly Hills Heights in Tenerife, we had cockroaches every day, both small and large. They showed up in the bedroom, even above the bed, as well as the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. On the second day we started seeing them. We were offered another room, but it was worse and on a lower floor, and it wouldn’t have fixed things since this clearly seemed to be a hotel-wide problem. The place also seemed very old and poorly maintained, with peeling walls, worn furniture, and a generally untidy feel. There were even cookie crumbs left from the previous guests when we arrived. Housekeeping was poor: after one cleaning they forgot the towels, the next time they left a towel with a large hole, and the cleaning itself was bad. We found dark hairs afterward even though all of us are fair-haired. The bed linen covers were much too big for the bedding. I left my power bank on the bed, and after housekeeping it had been moved to the table and damaged, which was unacceptable. The electricity also went out 3-5 times every single day, causing constant inconvenience. Despite all this, no discount, compensation, or apology was offered. The hotel doesn’t meet basic hygiene, cleanliness, or maintenance standards. The cockroach problem alone makes it unacceptable. We wouldn’t stay here again and don’t recommend it.

Our room was a spacious duplex, with a kitchen, living room, and balcony overlooking the pool downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs. The hotel and staff were very good, and everything was clean and functional despite the slightly dated decor. The staff were incredibly polite. A few things to know: there’s no lift, so expect stairs. Housekeeping comes infrequently, only once every 3 days, and our room was cleaned just once during our 6-night stay. Rooms near the street get traffic and cleaning-truck noise late at night and early in the morning. Breakfast was good, though it became crowded after 9:30 AM. They often ran out of cutlery and plates, so guests had to use paper plates. Go early to avoid the rush.

We’ve stayed here four times now, and this was another lovely holiday. We were very happy with the housekeeping, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. We didn’t see any cockroaches anywhere in the complex, and I was completely shocked by a review calling it a hotel-wide problem. Our split-level apartment had two bedrooms, each with a private bathroom upstairs, and a bathroom downstairs alongside a comfortable lounge with a TV and a fully equipped self-catering kitchen. It overlooked the well-kept pool area, which has a heated pool, lots of sun loungers, and a bar serving drinks and snacks. There’s a daily activity schedule, including mid-morning yoga and stretching, with more vigorous activities at the Mirage next door, where the pool was much colder. Breakfast at the Mirage exceeded our expectations. There was plenty of choice, everything was freshly prepared, and some items changed subtly each day. Freshly cooked omelettes were available most days. The complex is uphill from the main center of Los Cristianos. There’s a free shuttle bus, or you can use a safe, direct footpath if you’re reasonably fit. Just outside the main doors is the family-run Italian restaurant Bella Roma, with good pizza and pasta and a takeaway service. Taurus Argentine Steakhouse is nearby and well worth a visit. The Mirage also has a well-stocked supermarket with fresh-baked goods, drinks, snacks, fresh produce, and good prices. A short walk downhill gets you to a small shopping area with bars, places to eat, and arcade games. From my experience, you can’t go wrong if you want a relaxing break with what you need close by and the option to head out and explore.

The quiet location was great, and the staff were friendly and polite. Our rooms were clean enough, though there were a few areas that could have been better. It didn’t bother us too much. My main issue was the recent €50 charge to use one of the Balinese beds. That includes €50 to spend at the bar patio. We thought it was cheeky to start charging when they hadn’t before, but figured it could be okay for a full day there. My partner and I are vegan, though, and the only menu option we could eat was french fries. We didn’t want to spend €50 on fries, so we asked if we could rent the bed without the bar patio voucher at a lower rate. The answer was no, the voucher was included. That didn’t feel inclusive. To use the bed we’d have had to pay €50, which is crazy, so we decided not to. Anyone with allergies would have the same problem. If a voucher is part of the deal, surely the menu should offer something everyone can eat. We didn’t see a single person using the beds the whole time we were there. They seem unpopular and like a waste of perfectly good beds. Maybe they should rethink this?
