Playazul Apartments

The pool was nice and fairly quiet, and the day staff were polite and left us to enjoy our holiday. We had a hire car and found parking a couple of hundred meters up the road on a gravel area, since the hotel parking wasn’t great. For 2 star accommodation, the place was great, with plenty of room for four and a fridge, kettle, and cooker in good order. The shower was okay, but the rain shower wouldn’t stay on unless you held the button. The night porter let things down on a couple of nights, as he was unhelpful and almost rude.

My 17-year-old son stayed here for a week over New Year with three friends. He said their 2 bedroom apartment was brilliant and surprisingly quiet. The location was perfect for going down the Veronicas strip. They liked the pool and used the snack bar. For a group of lads, he rated it 10/10 for location, cleanliness, staff, and apartment size.

The reception staff were lovely and really tried to help with everything we asked, but the hotel needs more attention to cleaning and maintenance. The photos make it look modern and stylish, though in person it could use a refresh. Our room was on the ground floor, dark as a cave, and the view was just as bad, but that part was whatever. In the first ten minutes after check-in, the blinds fell down. They were fixed the next day. There were old stains on the floor, dust on the coffee table, and hair inside the sofa. After housekeeping came, the bed linen still hadn’t been changed, the dust was still there, and they left behind the sand we’d brought in from the beach.

We booked 3 nights but cancelled the remaining 2 after arriving. At reception, they called the room an “upgrade”: we’d booked Building Z, first floor, but were put in a basement-level room. It had a small terrace with two sunbeds, but getting there meant going down three flights of stairs, with no elevator. I’m pregnant, so having to go up and down was extremely uncomfortable and impractical. We asked to change rooms and were told none were available that day. The reception staff were kind and tried to help as much as they could. The room had other problems too: the key code didn’t work properly, and the nightstand was sticky and clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. After just an hour, there was very loud music from other guests and a strong smell of smoke everywhere. A very disappointing stay, far from what we expected.
