The bowling green seemed to be in use most days, and the friendly players were happy to talk about the game. There’s also a pool, probably best enjoyed in summer. The rooms are nice and breakfast is small but good. My wife says the coffee, especially the cappuccino, is the best. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, and Dimitri at reception was exceptionally helpful and spoke excellent English. It’s a convenient five-minute walk from the big cave, and a weekend in the quiet Spanish countryside would be lovely. We felt right at home thanks to the friendly people. Highly recommend this Country Club Hotel.

The restaurant serves delicious food, with favourites like fish and chips and a superb Sunday roast. The hotel also has an events room that looks ideal for private functions such as weddings. It’s a great place to feel part of the community, and while we were there, four teams were competing, including the local team that uses the bowling green every day. The staff at reception were friendly and attentive. There’s a nice outdoor pool and a bowling green, and our comfortable, old-fashioned room had almost everything we needed. A kettle would have made the stay better. We also had a lovely terrace with mountain views over the green. The hotel is in a peaceful, picturesque spot, well suited to walkers and especially road cyclists, with challenging mountain roads leading to traditional Spanish towns and villages. It’s a few minutes’ drive from the AP7 and Denia, definitely worth a visit. The 12 guest pods nearing completion look set to add something special for people wanting to stay close to nature with lovely views and modern comforts.

We stopped by for a glass of wine and a swim. What a beautiful oasis, and the staff were so kind and friendly. We had a fantastic afternoon. We didn’t stay at the hotel, but El CID also puts on lovely weddings and birthday events.

It was lovely to swim and then eat while looking out at the mountains, and we were pleased to discover a restaurant with a pool. The fish and chips were good, but we’d already tried the only two things on the menu that appealed to us, and the rest of the choices felt very limited and disappointing. We’re not fussy eaters. Such a shame, especially since the reviews had been good until recently. Apparently there are new owners, so maybe it’s a case of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” We chose not to go back.

We stopped by after visiting the caves, hoping to get a drink and maybe some food. It was quiet, with hardly anyone there, but after we sat outside for 10 minutes the staff still hadn’t acknowledged us. I waited at the bar another five minutes and was ignored again, so we left. Shame, since the location is great, but there’s a busy restaurant with a pool just a few minutes further along. I wouldn’t recommend stopping here.
