The hosts were warm and really involved, and we had a lovely stay. We came looking for a quiet weekend away from the city, somewhere not too busy where we could hike with our dogs, with a good restaurant and an easy enough trip from Barcelona. This place ticked all of that. I wouldn’t choose it for a stay with small children, though.

The room was lovely, with ochre-colored floors warmed from below and mountain views. We didn’t speak Catalan, and the hosts had only a little English, but the three young people looking after us made sure we were comfortable. Hotel Rural Font Del Genil sits in a beautiful medieval stone village in the Pyrenees, with snow-covered peaks in view. It made for a really special stay, and I’d highly recommend it.

We were glad to have a car since the hotel is quite remote. It’s in a pretty little town with lovely mountain views, and the hosts were kind and very helpful. We don’t speak Spanish, but they managed to help us in English and with Google Translate. The bed was comfortable, and dinner at the hotel restaurant was delicious. The goat cheese salad and cheese fondue are must-tries.

The couple running Hotel rural font del genil were especially friendly and helpful, and the neighborhood is beautiful. Parking and unloading our bags were easy. Our mountain-view room looked lovely in the morning, the shower had good pressure and warm water, and the thermostat responded well. There’s no elevator, though the stairs are wide and pleasant. It was a pity that one of the hiking trails seemed to be closed.
