We really enjoyed our meal in the bar area, especially the sauteed legumes with prawns and cod. Breakfast was adequate, and reception welcomed us warmly. The location was fantastic, with a direct view of the Gaudí Palace from our second-floor rooms. The room was large with a good-sized bathroom. One downside, the shower is in the bath behind a plastic curtain, and that could use an update.

The location is its biggest strength: right in the middle of Astorga's historic center, and Astorga itself is lovely. But this isn't a place I'd stay again. I had problems with rude staff on both visits. In 2019, when I asked the bar guy about my 6:30am breakfast, he brushed me off until I insisted I'd paid for it. In 2025, the front desk guy was rude too. I just smiled, but even though breakfast and dinner were paid for, I chose not to eat there because I didn't want more interaction with the staff. I went out for dinner and left early for the next day's trek without breakfast. They have no sense of customer service. If you're in hospitality, you should be polite even when you've had a bad day. The hotel is very tired and needs updating. Gaudi won't be happy to have it named after him: the only art deco part is the doors facing the plaza. The rooms, dining room, and bar don't have that style at all, just an old 70s feel.

Dinner really impressed us. We enjoyed everything we ordered, and the roasted vegetables were especially tasty.

The location is perfect, right across from the Cathedral and Gaudi Palacio, with the Camino track just outside and plenty of good restaurants nearby as well as in the hotel. The old hotel has real charm. The friendly guy at reception asked if we'd like a room facing the Gaudi house, and it was a great choice. The beds were excellent.

We came here because the restaurant at our hotel was closed on Wednesday evening. Although they were serving a group of 30 tourists from the Netherlands, they still looked after us well and served excellent food. The bar and restaurant staff took great care of us.
