Hotel Gran Sol

What really makes a stay here special is the warm, professional staff, who are attentive and create a welcoming atmosphere for relaxing. Hotel Gran Sol also sits in a prime spot on the Cádiz coast, with the Atlantic nearby and golden beaches and Zahara de los Atunes' calm character all around. The area is a treat for food lovers, especially anyone who enjoys almadraba bluefin tuna, with Zahara de los Atunes and neighbouring Barbate both offering a rich food scene. It's a great base for discovering the many things this corner of Andalucía has to offer.

The hotel is gradually updating its bedrooms, which is a welcome change, especially in the rooms with walk-in showers. It's right on the beach, where you used to be able to park. It seems to have changed hands, and after so many years I do miss knowing the staff. The new team, though, are wonderfully helpful, and the service is great. Everything is immaculately clean. I had several midday snacks and they were all good. Breakfast has a huge cold selection, while the hot options aren't quite at the same level. The pool area has lovely loungers in sun or shade, and the new security gates there are an excellent improvement. The rooms also have sea views.

I've stayed here many times and have always enjoyed it. The hotel is right in town and faces the beach. If a sea-view room is available, it's worth getting one. Booking directly is more cost effective. Pets are allowed for a fee.

We loved this small hotel so much that we're coming back with friends in June, and hope to return every year. The owners are charming, and every staff member we met was welcoming, cheerful, and helpful. Our room was elegant and spacious, with comfortable beds. There's no tea-making setup, but I bring my own. The hotel overlooks the beach and sea in a wonderful spot. It feels like real Spain, away from the more cosmopolitan area where we live very happily.
