Be Sound Hostel Barcelona

The location is fantastic, and the lounge and dining area are lovely. The kitchen is large, though short on cooking utensils, but you can make do. It’s decent for a short stay, even if the cleanliness wasn’t quite up to my standards. The rooms are pretty small, with only a narrow gap between beds and lockers. They try to put solo travelers in gender-separated rooms when possible, even if you booked a bed in a mixed room. There are only two bathrooms per floor, one for women and one for men, each with a toilet behind a second door, two sinks, and a shower. That’s not enough when the hostel is full, although other floors may be empty and have a free bathroom. At night the lounge, kitchen, and terrace close, so you have to go to bed early or head out. Make sure to keep drinking water in your room.

The rooms are unbelievably small. In mine, six of us are staying in what’s probably smaller than an average bedroom. The beds fold down from the wall, and when they’re down there’s barely room to walk. There are no privacy curtains either. Each floor has just two bathrooms, one for boys and one for girls, so all the girls share a single shower and toilet. The shower head on my floor is broken, and there’s no way to lock the door while showering, so someone could just walk in. There are some good points. The lockers are a decent size and very secure, using your personal electronic key from reception. The staff are really friendly, and this hostel is cleaner than others I’ve stayed in. There are lots of power points and hooks on the walls, too. But there’s no bench space at all, so charging a phone or computer means leaving it on the bed or floor. That doesn’t bother me much, but I know it will for some people. With only one small mirror and no benches, it’s hard for so many girls to get ready in the morning. It’s not awful, and I’m sure there are worse places, but there are better options too. I’m giving it 3 stars. If I could give 2.5, I would.

It’s a tiny hostel. I couldn’t even fit through the toilet door to take a piss, LOL. The staff were great, friendly, and easy to communicate with. The rooms felt secure, with big lockers and key access, so I felt fine leaving my things there. In winter it didn’t have that cozy, stay-in feel. I think an indoor chill-out area would help. The location’s great, about a 10 Min walk to the marina, then around 15 min to the beach, and there are loads of good bars on the hostel street. There was NO HOT WATER ON THE 5TH FLOOR FOR SHOWER, but the floor below worked fine. Some of the main entrance doors were noisy when opened late at night, which annoyed a few guests including me. They need some maintenance.

You can cook for yourself in the fairly well-equipped kitchen, and the staff are super friendly and do their best to help. The beds aren’t very comfortable, but they’re fine for a couple of nights. Prices keep changing depending on the season.
