Catalonia Avinyó

We got good service, and the price felt reasonable. The room was clean, though it had a slightly musty smell and no USB charging ports. The Gothic Quarter was easy to explore on foot. There are plenty of good restaurants, a grocery store right next door, and a café with nice coffee and pastries.

The location is hard to beat, and I liked having a balcony. The room was comfortable too. Check-in at Catalonia Avinyó went smoothly, and the whole team was genuinely friendly. Julia was especially attentive and helped make the stay memorable. I’m looking forward to coming back.

The layout worked well for me, and I loved the rooftop pool and gym. The room itself was close to perfect. Being in the Gothic Quarter meant I could reach shops, restaurants and attractions with a short walk, and the hotel felt like a welcome pause from the busy nearby streets. What made the stay uncomfortable was how staff treated me. It happened five or six times at least, and I tried to allow for different expectations around customer service in the US and Barcelona. When I sprained my ankle and asked the bartender for ice, she told me to return after 8:30 am because the bar was closed. I explained I only needed ice, not a drink, and that they clearly had some. She repeated the same answer and wouldn’t help. Checkout was uncomfortable as well. The first person I spoke with kindly agreed to hold my bag, but when I pointed out extra charges that hadn’t been included, he brought over a manager. She was cold and rude through the whole conversation, even though I was trying to be honest and helpful. I felt so uneasy that I went to a small bakery up the road for breakfast every morning.

The location is why I’d give this four stars. We arrived late on March 28th, and there was no street noise or sewer smell. The air conditioner worked well, so we slept comfortably. Catalonia Avinyó’s team made check-in easy, and the front desk is open around the clock. Special thanks to Julia, who helped early in the morning, made sure the taxi was on its way and checked we got into the right one.
