Catalonia Barcelona Beach Hotel

The lack of vegan choices at breakfast was disappointing, and we were also told we couldn’t take donuts with us. We’d paid for breakfast and aren’t very hungry in the morning, so sometimes we like to save a small item for later. It shouldn’t have been an issue. We’d stayed in hotels in Paris and Switzerland before this and hadn’t encountered those restrictions or that kind of behavior. We were there for two days, and construction noise was constant and bad enough to wake us early every morning. The hotel kept taking bookings and charged the full city tax despite the disruption. If it was going to be this severe, guests should have been told clearly in advance, or bookings for affected rooms should have been paused. This wasn’t the hospitality or experience we expected.

The breakfast was excellent and a real pleasure. The rest was disappointing. The hotel is being reconstructed, and if I’d known before booking, I wouldn’t have reserved a room. I’d appreciate more transparency about that. Also, calling the fitness room a “gym” is misleading. It has just two treadmills, pedal exercisers and one stationary bike, so it doesn’t count as a proper gym. The website should describe it more accurately.

Be careful about booking here. They cancelled my reservation on what I believe was a made-up excuse, with no legitimate reason. The hotel says it was a “technical issue” validating my card, but that doesn’t hold up. I updated the card within minutes of their notice, then again the next day, well inside the 24-hour window they gave me. They cancelled shortly afterward without following their own process. My card works, and I get an instant alert for every transaction attempt, including declined ones. There were no attempts. I also paid €1,250.55 successfully on that same card, so there wasn’t a problem on my end. They shouldn’t cancel a confirmed booking because of a limitation in their own system and then blame the customer. I shouldn’t have to bear the cost of their internal technical failure. It caused needless stress and disruption just hours before I was due to travel with my family. Be aware.

Breakfast was my favourite part, with lots of variety. We also had lunch and dinner as part of our group booking, and those were okay. Staff were very nice and accommodating, and housekeeping were always nearby to ask if we needed anything. We stayed as a large group while the hotel was doing a lot of construction. The machinery made the days extremely loud, though the nights were quiet. I’d recommend this location for a beach vacation.
