Hotel Condes de Barcelona

We couldn't properly enjoy our stay because construction started around 8:30 each morning, with noise so loud it seemed to be right above our room. It was impossible to sleep or relax. Hotel Condes Barcelona never told us about the work before arrival or at check-in, which left us frustrated. The room was also in disappointing condition, with what looked like black mold in the shower. It seemed many American guests were put on the second floor in the older part of the hotel while other areas looked more updated. I don't know if that was intentional, but it gave the impression guests were being treated differently. The location is fantastic, but the lack of notice and the room condition let us down.

The location was great, just steps from shopping, restaurants, and cafes, and our concierge pointed us to a superb tapas spot. We even walked to the beach and enjoyed the sun. It was a perfect place to unwind after our European cruise, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We had a great stay and loved this hotel!

The staff were the real luxury here. After nearly 24 hours of travel and two flights, our cab stopped on Passeig de Gracia and Jackson hurried over as we unloaded our many bags. He kept us clear of traffic and guided all four of us safely into the hotel. We hadn't understood how traffic runs beside the sidewalks on both sides of the street, with a wide walkway down the middle, so it was easy to step into a lane without paying attention. Since our flight arrived early, we left our luggage with the helpful staff. Desk staff gave us good restaurant recommendations, greeted us warmly whenever we came back, and asked about our day and whether we needed anything. The bell staff were always ready with a cab, directions, or whatever else we needed. We don't speak Spanish, but communicating at the hotel was no problem. We spent three nights in the city before our cruise and had a wonderful stay. The room was very nice and well equipped, with a good-sized safe, drawer refrigerator, and washcloths, all unexpected and much appreciated. Our view of Passeig de Gracia was a pleasant surprise, and the location was perfect for shopping, restaurants, and transport. Breakfast at the rooftop restaurant was good, with the usual European hotel buffet options and eggs made to order. Try the eggs Benedict. We loved our first visit to Barcelona and look forward to coming back.

If being right in the city is your priority, this is a strong choice for the money. Barcelona’s location here is hard to beat. The lobby, lifts, and new breakfast room have all had a lovely update, and the quality shows in the details. Breakfast itself doesn’t offer a huge selection. The rooms still feel behind the renovated public spaces, with dated bathrooms and furniture that needs refreshing. You’ll also hear quite a lot of street noise.
