Gran Derby Suites Hotel, a Small Luxury Hotels of the World

The staff were a mixed bag. Some were attentive, friendly and professional, while others didn't seem very customer-oriented. We also had to sort out a payment problem: they pre-authorized the full amount a few days before arrival, then asked me to pay again at check-in. When I left, the double amount was still blocked, so I had to chase them. The parking was convenient to have, but it's outside the hotel and expensive. The directions weren't clear, which was confusing on a one-way street when the parking entrance is before the hotel. We even got locked in and had to hunt for the gate button, making the €35.20 parking feel like an escape game with our suitcase. Sound insulation between rooms wasn't great either; we could hear the neighbours' shower and toilet from bed. We booked a junior suite but got twin beds. Apparently you have to request a double in advance, and booking didn't give us that option. The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and have good amenities, and the beds were comfortable. The pool looked nice, but we didn't try it because it was winter. The hotel itself looks a bit dated, and the breakfast was very basic. Nothing surprised us, and you had to pay extra for tomatoes or mushrooms, or for eggs that weren't fried. The location is convenient, but if you're expecting a luxury property with luxury services as part of SLH, this isn't it.

We had a comfortable, relaxing four-night stay at this well-located hotel. The team were warm, welcoming and helpful. Laura, Fernando, Jordie and Christopher at the front desk were polite, professional and accommodating. They asked about our daily plans and gave us great suggestions for places to visit and eat. Noel and Janice made breakfast a lovely way to start the day with their smiles and service. I'd highly recommend this place.

The room was very clean, and the reception team were great. The lobby and restaurant also looked amazing. But the room itself felt old: the toilet cistern was falling apart, the bath taps seemed ready to come off, and the shower drain broke, filling the apartment with a horrible smell. The sofa bed in the deluxe double room was really uncomfortable and not suitable for more than one night's sleep. I might come back if the room were in better shape.

Fernando and Mrs Laura at reception made my stay especially easy. They were kind, professional, and quick to help with questions and arranging room cleaning. I also enjoyed the à la carte breakfast. I spent two nights in a beautiful Duplex room at Gran Derby Suites, and as a Hilton Diamond member I really appreciated the hospitality. I’d happily recommend it and would return to Barcelona.
