Hostal Baires

Service was excellent, and our rooms were cleaned every day to our satisfaction. The price seemed reasonable for such a central location, with The Ramblas only a short walk away and plenty of cozy places to eat and drink just outside. We were very happy with the stay, but the lack of soundproofing was a real issue, both between rooms and from the street. If your windows or balcony face the street, expect weekend noise until 3-4 AM, and you'll hear hallway and neighbour conversations too.

The location is easily the best part. It's in the Gothic district, just steps from the sea, metro and bus stops, with lots of shops, restaurants, and pubs close by. The rest was disappointing: equipment and facilities were old, damaged, or broken, and the rooms, curtains, floors, kitchen tables, and bathrooms were dirty. It's right in the middle of the city's party street, so I wouldn't recommend it if you want a quiet, undisturbed stay.

For such a cheap place, it was really alright. You're in the center of the old town, near the beach and public transport, and my room had a balcony I really enjoyed. The rooms are clean but dated. The staff were very friendly, and I got to practice my Spanish with them. Bring earplugs, since there are bars and restaurants all around.

The breakfast was okay, though the same every day. The location is great, but the rest was mostly disappointing: we had a broken bulb in our room, and there was hair in the bed sheets. Bars nearby meant we could hear people outside the hostel every night, and the staff were rude. I wouldn't stay there again.
