Hostal Colmenero

I couldn't stay here. The place smelled of smoke, and the owner told me to sit and wait, then complained that I'd rung the bell three times. She said I had inconvenienced her by arriving at the wrong check-in time, even though I arrived at 4pm and the message I received said 3PM-10PM. She eventually showed me around, but it was dirty and uninhabitable. I lasted five minutes, handed the keys back, and asked for a refund. She refused. Getting in had already been a struggle. The owner didn't speak English and wouldn't buzz me up, but another resident let me into the building. I rang the doorbell and got no answer; the second time, a dog barked, and I waited again. It took about five minutes to reach the "hotel." Once inside, the owner, an older woman who smelled like alcohol and wasn't very nice, made me wait 15 minutes before helping me. I left relieved, but had to scramble to find somewhere else. Nearby hotels were full, so I walked around Barcelona with all my luggage before finding a hotel for the week. Avoid this place like the plague.
