Hostal Mont Thabor

The location is handy for seeing the city, though the area can feel a bit seedy at night, so watch out. The place itself was a really bad experience. My room had a hole in the window and bits of glass fell onto the floor. The sheets were regularly stained, and the whole place had a bad energy. It seemed like the rooms hadn’t had a deep clean in at least five years. One receptionist was nice enough, especially if you speak Spanish. A friend with me found them ruder when speaking English, maybe out of frustration. After a long day exploring, you want to be able to rest somewhere clean where you feel safe, and this place was so far from ideal for that. I understand the city can be expensive, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room was filthy, and the mattress was covered in nasty stains with no mattress protector. It was too dirty to shower. Reception was friendly, but they offered no solution after I complained. The room was very cold, and the air conditioning didn’t work well on warm. The lock on the thin door and the fire detector with tape on it both felt unsafe. There was graffiti at the entrance. There’s no 24-hour reception. Check in late and you’re charged 10 Euro, cash only. Terrible place, don’t go!!!

I understand it’s a cheap hostal, but the basics should still work. The room had just one light, a desk lamp, and its door only had a bolt on the inside, so there was no way to lock it when you went out. The employee at the desk looked exhausted, and he was the only staff member we saw. He seemed rude at first, then got friendlier after a while. Maybe they’re understaffed, or perhaps he was embarrassed about the facilities.

The location is good, but after we complained about a strong sewer smell in our room, we were moved to a lower-level room with no window and they refused to adjust the price. My wife and I stayed four nights. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It didn’t feel fair, and they didn’t treat us as clients should be treated.
