Hostal Opera Ramblas

The room was small but practical and met our needs. It was clean, and the beds were made each day. Reception staff were attentive and helpful, and we were close to lots of attractions, restaurants, cafés, and bars. The metro station was just a two-minute walk away. I would have liked a full-length mirror in the room and a shelf in the bathroom. Those were the only things I felt were missing.

The housekeeping team kept the place tidy throughout our stay, and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. Hostal Operaramblas was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and we had a great experience. We did miss having a fridge in the room, but we were very pleased with our stay.

For mid-November, the only suggestion was to turn off the AC because the heat hadn't been turned on yet. The desk person was nice and brought us an extra blanket. There was no ice or refrigerator, and I was told I could buy ice next door. The towels and toilet paper were poor quality. It's reasonably priced and in a good location, but those things are why I'm taking off stars.

I spent the night at another hotel because the room I was given smelled of cigarette smoke. This was the first of my three booked nights. The property says on its website that it's nonsmoking, but when I asked for another room or different accommodation, they refused. They also denied my request for a refund for the stay. Instead, I was told to email the manager about getting the first night refunded and that I'd receive a new room in the morning. I emailed, but the manager denied the refund for that first night too. They implied it was my fault for not warning them in advance about my sensitivity or allergy to cigarette smoke, which I didn't think I needed to do at a nonsmoking property.
