Hotel Vilamari

The room had a kettle and mini-bar, which was convenient, and the hotel was clean, modern, and chic. I was happy with the location and had an interior room, so there was no street noise. Those were my two main priorities. Still, some things didn’t meet what I’d expect from a 4-star hotel. I ordered room service because I wanted a quick dinner. Since the hotel has a restaurant and kitchen, I thought it would arrive in about 15 minutes. It turned out to come from an outside catering company, took an hour, and arrived cold. Soundproofing inside could also be better. I could hear the elevator ding and people talking loudly in the hall late at night, and the doors slam quite hard. Some foam to soften them would help. There seemed to be bathroom issues too. I could hear a loud rush of water when someone in another room flushed, the faucet sometimes seemed to leak, and there was an unpleasant bathroom odor. The TV didn’t work because of a cable problem.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and spoke English. The neighborhood was fine, with plenty of restaurants and cafes on the surrounding blocks. It’s an easy walk to Placa d’Espanya metro station, though finding the entrances was an adventure. The Aeroport bus dropoff at Placa d’Espanya is super convenient; the pickup stop is farther away but still only a 5-10 minute walk. There’s also an attached underground parking garage, though I can’t speak to the details. The hotel had all the amenities I’d expect from a classy place, though there’s a device charging outlet on only one side of the bed.

The staff were friendly and tried hard to make our stay more comfortable, doing what they could whenever we asked. The basic room, though, felt quite old, with a musty smell, scratched flooring, marks on the wall and worn toilet details. I gave it 3 stars because the experience felt more like a 3-star hotel than the 4-star rating it currently has.

The staff were efficient and friendly, and we’d be happy to stay here again. Our room was quiet, clean and had everything we needed, though it was a little worn. Next time I’d ask about the Turkish spa facilities too.
