Margot House

The location is great, the shared spaces have a nice artsy design, and the Aesop products are a nice touch. That's about where the positives end. I booked Margot House after seeing it recommended in Condé Nast magazine, but I came away disappointed. Our room had no window and wasn't cleaned regularly. We could hear the reception staff chatting loudly for ages from our room, and the breakfast felt odd: we couldn't make our own coffee with the machine, and the selection was quite limited and basic for a boutique hotel. I wouldn't return.

The shared space worked well for breakfast or sitting with a book, and the staff were kind and helpful. We booked the biggest room, which was sunny and elegant, with a comfortable bed. It's a small, intimate place, a bit like an air bnb, except someone else makes your breakfast. Book it, you won't regret it.

From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel at home. They're incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the rooms are beautifully designed, spotlessly clean and full of thoughtful details. Our room had stunning views of Casa Batlló. Margot House is my favorite accommodation I've experienced in Barcelona by far. The location puts you right in the heart of the city, among luxury, culture and striking architecture. Great restaurants and shops are within walking distance, and the metro is close by for getting around. The welcome letter covers all the key details for your stay. I'll definitely come back. There are only 9 rooms, so I'd book ahead to experience this hidden gem.

We left the next morning, after paying for two nights, and the staff seemed completely unconcerned. They didn't even apologize. We found a proper 4* hotel in the same district, for the same price, with great service. Our room at this "hotel" was very worn and had no natural light, so we'd have needed to leave the lights on all day. We also had to listen to the reception phone ringing and doors banging all night. The place has no direct access to the street, something that wasn't mentioned on the website or any platform, even though the online communication had been good.
