Melia Barcelona Sarrià

After going several days without sleep, I checked out early. I managed to negotiate a refund for the night I wouldn’t be staying, and I’ll be contacting Melia corporate management because this didn’t meet the Melia standard. I had paid almost 400 a night for a Level junior suite, but spent two days asking for the manager and moving rooms three times. Each room had serious problems with noise, electrics, or something else. Wind came through the badly sealed windows, leaving the bedroom freezing, and the AC wouldn’t heat. When I complained about the unbearable window noise, I was told I was lucky to have the room I had. The rooms are dated, with tiny TVs, doors hanging off their hinges, uncomfortable beds, and poor window seals that let in wind and street noise. The buffet food was poor and stale, and the Level food seemed to be recycled from it. I left early.

We’ve tried four hotels in Barcelona, and Melia Barcelona Sarriá has become my favorite. Our Family Room "The Level" was spacious and up on the 18th floor, with panoramic views of the Barcelona skyline and the Mediterranean Sea, plus spectacular sunrises. The private Lounge and dedicated breakfast room made the upgrade feel worthwhile, and the service was incredible. Everyone we met was kind, professional, and helpful. Breakfast was outstanding, one of the best spreads I’ve had. It’s also well placed for sports fans, very close to Camp Nou, and connected to other major attractions. The spa books up quickly, so reserve ahead if you want to use it. We occasionally noticed a slight drainage smell in the room; mechanical bathroom fans might help with the ventilation. Those small issues aside, the comfort and quality were top-notch. I’ll definitely return.

We were here with a big group, which is why we chose the hotel, and I’m glad we did. The staff were super friendly, especially Allen in the restaurant, and the rooms were nice with comfortable beds. It was clean and smelled nice, and the gym and breakfast buffet were both great. I live in New Jersey (US) and have high standards for hotels, so I was a little nervous after reading the negative reviews. Our three-night stay pleasantly surprised me, and I’d give Melia Sarria 5 stars. The location is fine and safe, with some good local tapas restaurants within walking distance, but it’s around a 10-12 minute taxi ride to the main parts of the city. If you want to be right among the popular areas, this may not be the place for you. I wouldn’t necessarily stay here again for that reason, though I’m grateful for the stay.

The road-facing rooms are noisy, and the glass bathroom door lets light shine right into your roommate’s face if you use the bathroom at night 🤔. Those were just a couple of small issues, though. It’s a good hotel in a nice location, and everything else was great.
