Pestana Arena Barcelona

The location is handy, only about a five-minute walk from the metro. The rest of the stay didn’t justify the price for me, and I definitely wouldn’t call this a four-star hotel. I’d booked weeks ahead and asked for a higher floor, but was given a first-floor room, which I was told was the only one available. It was very dark with little natural light. The room itself was an okay size, but it badly needs updating. The wooden shower floor dipped when I stepped on it and felt as if it might give way. At 3 p.m. on Saturday there was just one person at reception. We waited around ten minutes to check in, even though only one guest was ahead of us, and by the time we were done at least five more people were queuing. Breakfast was awful. The scrambled eggs were cold and hard, as if they’d been sitting out for ages. I was really disappointed after seeing the decent ratings. I visit BCN regularly and won’t stay here again.

The bedrooms felt modern and clean, with no carpets, and the bed was really comfortable. Service was wonderful every time we interacted with staff. Alexandre deserves a special mention: always smiling, very kind, and helpful even during a busy Saturday breakfast. The hotel is near the Magic Fountains. It isn’t right among the main sights, but the metro and tourist bus stops are close, and you can also reach places with a pleasant short walk through the city.

Alexandra at reception made a huge difference to my stay. When I had an upsetting incident at a restaurant, she listened carefully, helped me get in touch with the police, and kept communicating with both them and me as things unfolded. She also translated between Spanish and English and contacted the hospital for me when I needed it. Her kindness, professionalism, and willingness to help made me feel safe and looked after. She treats guests with real courtesy and personal attention, and it was reassuring to see her at the desk, always ready to help. I’m very grateful to the hotel for having Alexandra on the team. Her support made my stay much more comfortable.

We’ve stayed here twice now and love the hotel. Alexandre and Tino were especially friendly and helpful, and the whole staff goes out of their way to make guests feel good. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and breakfast has delicious food with plenty of choice. We’ll definitely return and highly recommend Pestana Arena.
