Hostal Río de Castro Barcelona

I booked at the last minute, and Domingo at reception was friendly and professional. The room and the rest of the hostal were clean, and the shared bathroom was clean too. It was quiet, though you could hear noise through the walls. That's common in Barcelona, so I didn't hold it against them. The room had everything I needed, including towels, soap, a TV, air conditioning, heating, and a coffee pod for the morning. There was also a small kitchen, which was a nice surprise. With the price, location, and 24/7 reception, I was really impressed.

The service was great, and the rooms were good. It's close to the center, on a large street, so I didn't feel unsafe at night.

The room looked stylish, with a view of the central street, and the staff were great. The bed was perfectly white, the pillows were very high quality, and the air conditioning was quiet. There was a huge TV with an HDMI connector, plus free coffee and tea. Guests could also use a shared fridge and a microwave. Best hotel for a trip to Barcelona!

I went to check the place out because a group of friends had booked a spring stay there and I'm a local. The way staff treated me was so poor that the group cancelled, costing the hostel a little over 500€ in revenue. Even during the day, the area seemed clearly unsafe to me, and the staff came across as unhelpful and impolite. Sadly, this seems common with low-cost places in prime locations. Since there's always a steady stream of customers, good service seems to come last.
