Soli, the caretaker and porter, was amazing, and it was a pleasure seeing her smiling face every day. The rest of this was an awful experience. I lost around 1,600€ in total, and after all that the agency still said I owed outstanding bills. The listing on a third-party site didn't specify the pet or bill rules and never said the building was for students. At the agency, after weeks of searching and once I'd paid the deposit, I was handed a three-page contract with rules and regulations, but no English version, even though we'd communicated only in English and the site said one would be provided. With no other options at that point, I felt Sant Jordi had me in a checkmate situation. The agent took three to five days to reply, if they replied at all. I had to follow up on WhatsApp every time I emailed. A cleaner could come any time from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. I said this was unacceptable and asked for a set time, but was told it was impossible. I felt it wasn't safe to have the porter and cleaner able to access my home throughout the day. Then 600€ was stolen. When I emailed asking them to change the locks or help in any way, they didn't respond. They said they couldn't help because I hadn't given them any details about the tenant. I refused to pay rent until the locks were changed and camera footage checked. I was robbed a second time, losing food, products, and glasses worth 700€. An iPhone 6s was plainly visible on the living room table and wasn't taken either time, which made me suspect it was an inside job. The agent again didn't respond and claimed everyone working for them was trustworthy and had been with the company for years. The agency sent two men to the property who threatened to call the police because I hadn't paid rent and was supposedly “illegally subrenting.” The agent had specifically told me I didn't need to provide any information. I had to call the police to get the men removed. When I saw one of them later, he had shaved off his beard and cut his shoulder-length hair. The Spanish police took no details or notes, which seemed strange, and I thought he might be changing his appearance. I felt the people working for Sant Jordi knew crime etiquette well. The lock still wasn't changed, so I paid a locksmith 200€ myself. A month and a half later, police told me it had been a Sant Jordi staff member who robbed the apartment. How did the agent not know who had keys? If an agent doesn't have all the keys to a security lock when tenants leave, the lock should be changed. Leaving it as it was put the next tenant at risk. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
