The Loft Hostel Barcelona

I really enjoyed staying here, which is why the management issues were such a letdown. The hostel is clean, comfortable, well maintained and in a great location. The kitchen is lovely, the fridges are convenient and clean, and each bed has a large drawer with plenty of storage. A Taiwanese friend recommended it to me, and most of the staff were kind and helpful. Without the issues below, I'd give it five stars. After I'd used the same sheets for two weeks, I asked once, politely, if they could be changed. The female manager said, “Usually no, but I’ll try to see,” which made a basic request feel uncomfortable. The communication about the 14-day policy also felt inconsistent. On 1/22, when I extended into my third week, the female manager approved it without mentioning any policy. Then, on 1/29, when I asked to extend again, she brought up the policy in an unfriendly way and told me, “We will approve this time, because you’ve already paid online, but this is your last stay.” It felt like I was being pushed out instead of properly informed. I later checked with another male staff member, who clearly explained that the policy does exist. The policy itself wasn't the issue, it was how it was communicated. Clearer, more consistent communication, especially the tone, would make things better for long-term guests.

We had a lovely stay. The hostel is cute and well located in the center of Barcelona, and the staff are kind and flexible if you have a request. The afternoon sun on the terrace is wonderful, and the staff organize activities with other guests if you want to socialize. I stayed here for three nights. The 12-person dorms are clean and bright, as are the shared bathrooms and toilets. Each bed has its own little space, with good curtains and a small light. One downside is the noise between bunks. Not everyone respects how quiet others need to be, and you can hear a lot from the person above or below you. It could be hard to sleep without earplugs or AirPods.

The staff were amazing, so kind and helpful. They let us check in before 3, and there's a place to lock your bags if you arrive early and the room isn't ready yet. Everything was very clean. We stayed for five nights. The first four were in the 10-person girls-only dorm, which was very comfortable, and all the bunks had curtains for privacy. For our final night we asked if a private room was available, and they upgraded us to room 215 for no extra charge. It was small for two and a bit noisy, but fine for one night. I'd recommend this hostel!

All areas of the hostel were clean and well looked after. I stayed for three nights, my first time ever in a hostel, and Juan welcomed me at check-in. The staff were kind throughout and helped with whatever I needed, including lending me an umbrella.
