Barcelona Apartment Val

The suite had space and character, and for its historic charm and location, I thought the price was more than fair. It's an old, well-preserved building, with original mosaic floors, wooden window frames, traditional doors, and high ceilings that made it feel like a once well-to-do Barcelona home. The room wasn't the cleanest or best maintained I've stayed in, but that didn't take away from the authentic feel. The location is hard to beat. I walked to nearly all the major sights in Barcelona. Some reviews had made me nervous after booking, but it's really about knowing what to expect. If you want a flawless modern hotel, this probably isn't for you. If you enjoy history, character, and a convenient location, you'll love it.

I am staying in the "Val apartments" of this hotel, and the experience has been extremely disappointing. Given the price and the reputation the hotel claims, I expected better service, comfort, and professionalism. The heating didn't work, making the apartment uncomfortable on early spring nights. The WiFi was so slow I couldn't join a simple online meeting, a serious problem for a business stay. The advertised 24-hour concierge was misleading too, since someone was only available from 7 PM onward. There was a coffee machine but no coffee, a small detail that still showed little attention to the guest experience. This wasn't worth the cost, and I wouldn't recommend it for a comfortable or business-friendly stay. There are better places that deliver what they promise. I'm sharing this as honest feedback to help improve the business, not to harm it.

The location was perfect, and the staff were friendly. Check-in was at nearby Hotel Clair. The apartment was old overall, with one standard-sized room and two very small rooms with narrow windows and small beds that seemed better suited to kids. There was a spacious sitting area and a big kitchen. Most of it was clean, except the dryer. It wasn't working at first because it was dirty; after I poured the water away and cleaned the ventilator, it worked.

The apartment is huge, and the bedroom at the back stayed quiet even on a noisy, busy street. With the balcony doors open, shutting the two inner doors blocked the street noise, which I liked. The area right off Passeig de Garcia has lots of coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, groceries, and a large mercado a few blocks up. Check-in at the Claris hotel went smoothly. The receptionist was kind and spoke English very well. I had read that some guests were offered a glass of Cava on arrival, but I got nothing. The building is very old and the apartment needs repairs: the sink drains slowly and the balcony doors need attention. There's a bedroom with twin beds, though I'm not sure the advertised sofa bed is actually there. The apartment doesn't feel bright or cheerful, and I don't know if what I paid was too much. I couldn't find a decent hotel for less, but I don't think I'd stay here again.
