Verdi 254

We stayed in Room 1, right next to the dining room, but the noise wasn’t a problem and we slept well. I only wish there had been bedside tables so we could keep things like our phones by the bed instead of in a corner of the room. We were there for a few days and enjoyed our stay. The place is close to Park Guell, with local shops and restaurants conveniently nearby. We liked those better than the ones in the tourist areas. Continental food is available in the dining area 24/7, and they restock it every morning.

I’d ask for my money back if I could. After more than 30 years of travel across over 30 countries and hundreds of hotels, this was by far the worst place I’ve stayed. I don’t know why Expedia recommended it. It was the most expensive hotel on our Spain trip, and I also had to pay the private property charge per night. I want my money back! The room was never cleaned. The sheets were dirty, and the shared bathroom was filthy. There were roaches. Breakfast was old and stale, the same food day after day, with coffee and milk that weren’t fresh. One woman even asked me to help get the water jar from downstairs because it was too heavy for her to carry and replace. It’s far from places of interest, up a very steep hill, and there aren’t good food options nearby. It was super loud, too. People came in and the door had no stopper, so it banged and woke everyone up. A horrible experience, to say the least.

I keep coming back to Verdi 254 and definitely plan to return again. It’s a beautiful, fairly priced bed and breakfast in a house from the early 1900s, with gorgeous tiles and authentic Catalonian Modernist architecture. The terraces overlook a quiet, gated garden just off Carrer de Verdi. The location is perfect for me, right in the heart of Grácia, a short walk from Park Güell and Carrer de Gran Grácia, with bus stops and the metro a few blocks away. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and having a good breakfast and coffee to start the day is a real plus. It is a hike up the hill, but worth it for such a unique and special experience. Highly recommended.

We especially liked being able to have snacks and drinks throughout the day. Verdi 254 is a nice guesthouse in a super calm, residential part of Barcelona. It could use some refreshing, particularly the bathroom window, which wouldn’t close, but it had everything we needed.
