Hotel Blaumar

The room was cleaned every day, and reception staff were really nice. The hotel is close to the beach, just a five-minute walk, but we expected more from a 5-star place. For us it seemed 4-star at best. Our room was very small for three, the sheets had stains, and the third bed wasn’t a proper bed. The WiFi didn’t work in our room, so we had to use the lobby to get online. Nights were loud with music, and sometimes we could smell weed from the neighbours’ balcony. Water was free at breakfast, but we had to pay for it at lunch and dinner. The guided Barcelona tour was disappointing and not worth it, since we could only see the sights from the bus.

The room service and maintenance were good, and the beach is close. Beyond that, this was a very poor stay. We arrived at 6 am with young children, but nobody was at reception until 8, despite the website saying the desk is open around the clock. Checkout is at 10:30 am, earlier than I’ve ever encountered. They charged taxes on top of taxes already paid, asked extra for the room safe even though their site lists it as included, and charged per day for a fridge that wasn’t provided. The elevators were painfully slow and closed on people’s arms or legs as they got in or out. Reception staff were rude. They spoke Spanish in front of me, knowing I don’t speak it, and said these things hadn’t happened. I posted the receipts because they didn’t even seem to know what I had or hadn’t paid. I won’t judge for you, but I can’t see how this is a four-star hotel. Read the other reviews carefully before booking. I don’t recommend it.

The pool area was lovely, with plenty of sunbeds, and the hotel was clean and well run. Staff were great too. We enjoyed both buffet meals, with lots of choice and a good variety each day. We had a lovely four-night stay at The Blaumar hotel and would happily return. The rooms could use a fridge, though it’s a minor thing. The area is lovely, with beautiful beaches.

We were a family of eight and ended up in three rooms spread around the hotel. The cleaning staff left one of our doors open while we were out all day. Nothing was missing, but all they said was sorry. The elevator took so long that we mostly used the stairs, and the internet was very slow. The restaurant food was a real concern. My son was eating ground chicken that was still red inside. We told staff it was raw, but they brushed us off. The pineapple was sadly the best thing to eat. At the bar they ran out of the beer we were drinking and had no white wine. The rooms had no fridge, microwave, or ice bucket. The TVs were small, the pillows tiny, and the bed cover looked and felt like a cheap shower curtain. The soap bar was extremely small and didn’t lather, there was no lotion, and there weren’t any small towels for scrubbing. Most staff didn’t understand English. The hotel is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the city center and bus stop, and the train is a 40-minute walk away. The pool isn’t special, though you can use the better one across the street. The four-star rating may come from sharing facilities with that hotel.
