RVHotels Spa Vila de Caldes

There was no reception and nobody working inside. It looks like it may have been a nice hotel 20-30 years ago, but now it feels like a place for passive income. The low price makes that seem fair enough. What bothered me was being told on WhatsApp that the pool was open, so we booked, then found out it only opens in May next year. They knew we would've gone somewhere else if they'd told us.

The thermal baths were unusual and fun to try, and we liked the different pools and the private jacuzzi session. Hotel & Spa Vila de Caldes was easy to reach once we got to Caldes de Montbui. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the quiet rooftop pool was nice. The cleaning staff were especially kind and friendly. Most other interactions were hands-off and through WhatsApp, so there's not much to say about service beyond that. A very nice weekend overall.

The pool was the best part, and the restaurant, Chisme, was really good. The rooms were spacious, though ours didn't have a mini fridge, and the vending machine wasn't working, which was a hassle. It's a self check-in and self check-out place with a virtual reception, so it may not suit you if you're uncomfortable with that. I had a great time apart from the virtual reception.

The hotel is about 40 minutes from Barcelona by bus, and Caldes de Montbui is a nice town to explore on foot. We were nervous after reading the Google reviews, but ended up having a great stay and felt the price was good for what we got. Check-in was fairly easy once we worked out that you have to press the check button before entering the code, then press it again. Leaving was simple too: just go and message to confirm. The rooms were clean and pleasant, with a TV and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The decor looked a little old but was still nice. The bathroom was very large, with both a bath and a shower. The pool was clean and pleasant, though a little shallow, and the water tasted a bit salty somehow. It didn't smell like a sewer, as some reviews said. The spa was nice as well: two jacuzzis, two pools, one regular and one with a “waterfall,” plus a sauna with a waterfall. It's not huge, and there was quite a bit of dust beside the jacuzzi, but the price seemed fair. The massage was really nice. The staff were friendly and helpful, including the cleaning ladies and the staff who were around at the hotel now and then. If communication is slow or something goes wrong, you can also visit the reception at Hotel Broquetas, five minutes away. We'd happily recommend staying here.
