Hotel Checkin Garbí

From our balcony, we had a lovely view over the Mediterranean, and the beach was easy to reach. There were also plenty of bars, shops, and restaurants nearby, which made the location really convenient, including for getting to Barcelona. Breakfast was a highlight: a broad buffet selection and wonderful service in the restaurant. The front desk staff were lovely too. The rooms were less impressive. The walls are so thin you can hear everything next door, and the lifts are small and slow. Some of the bathrooms could do with updating. Still, it’s good value for the location.

We spent nine days here and came away with a positive impression. The sea view from the hotel was gorgeous, the reception staff were friendly, and the room was cleaned pretty well. The cooks made tasty food, with fish and seafood available every day. It felt like the hotel didn’t skimp on meals. A few things could be improved. There weren’t enough waiters to clear tables promptly, and pigeons sometimes ate food right off the tables on the terrace. Music made the evenings a little noisy. The restaurant air conditioning was also so cold that I caught a cold. These issues weren’t deal-breakers, and I’d recommend the hotel for a holiday in Spain.

The food was nearly inedible, and one friend got food poisoning from the mussels. Ants were all over my room and my friends’ rooms, and we even found a cockroach in the bath on our last day. That made it hard to sleep without worrying. Our room was tiny, with nowhere safe to walk around while keeping suitcases tidy or drying wet clothes. Several bathroom things were already broken when we arrived, including the lights, hair dryer, and, most worryingly, the air conditioning. It also took us from about 12:00 until 12:40 to get to our rooms. The pool is very small, maybe enough for 15 people, and there was glass and rock at the bottom. A good friend cut his foot there. The walls are paper thin, so you hear everyone. My experience was horrible. I’d strongly advise against choosing this hotel.

The location is great, and the place is clean with decent facilities. The beds are okay, the bathroom was clean, and the air conditioning worked. There’s no fridge or kettle, so don’t expect anything fancy. Breakfast was fine and had some variety, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Noise is the main thing to know about. There are connecting doors between some rooms, but they do very little to block sound. You can hear everything from the room next door, as well as doors closing elsewhere on the floors.
