Hostal Villa Rosa

The hotel is quite attractive, but I'd only suggest it to a couple planning to spend the day out. It feels suitable for overnight stays, and even that was rough for me: the mattress was so soft that my back hurt worse than ever, and I had two of my worst nights there. The air conditioning barely worked, so my daughter, husband, and I were sweltering at night. Breakfast was ordinary, with no real choice.

Getting to town is easy, and the beach is only a few minutes away. The pool was nice, the price was okay, and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Sonia. Our room assignment was mixed up at first, but they eventually fixed it. The rooms are tiny, though, and ants were all over the rooms in my group. Cleaners came in at random without knocking or waiting for an answer, ignoring the Do Not Disturb signs. They made the bed and cleaned an ashtray, but didn't replace towels or bedding. My bed had stains that weren't cleaned. The TV had good reception and was a smart TV, so we could watch YouTube.

The staff were very friendly most of the time, and breakfast was good, so I'm giving three stars. The room was fine and had a nice pool view from the balcony, but the bathrooms need updating. The description calls it a modest hotel and also gives it three stars, while the name says “hostal.” I felt the management wasn't being clear about what it is and cared more about the business side than the guests. We arrived at midnight to find no soap in the bathroom. When we asked, we were told, “it is hostel.” I've stayed in other hostels around Europe that didn't have this problem and clearly identified themselves as hostels. They said to ask the cleaning staff in the morning, but I ended up buying soap myself.

The rooms could use a bit of investment, but they were okay overall. The pool was nice, the staff lovely, and the beach was close by. It's a very good location, and I'd definitely come back.
