Hostal Nevandi

I only came here to eat, not to stay at the hostel, and the meal was amazing. The pork knee was slow cooked, juicy and tender inside with a light crisp outside, the best I've had even though I often eat it in Germany and Czech. Before that I had fabada, which was also the best I've ever tasted, especially with the special Austrian morcilla. Arroz con leche made with local milk and thick rice was a perfect finish. The menu del dia was the best ever for me. Stop in on your way through, I loved this place.

The meal was one of the worst our party has had, despite looking forward to Cantabrian food after a lovely dinner next door the night before. The waitress was curt and seemed uninterested, possibly disdainful that we weren't fluent in Spanish. Our red wine came in a jug after being decanted, and we all thought it had been heavily watered down. It felt absurd that they might think we'd miss that just because we didn't speak Spanish well. The food was awful for the price. The 10 EUR garden salad was mostly lettuce scraps, including the cores, with only a few bits of tomato and raw onion. The 12 EUR escalopes were tough, overcooked, tasteless, and inedible. We were also served overcooked beans we hadn't ordered, boiled until limp. A tourist trap, memorable for all the wrong reasons. I'd choose any of the other places.

After long days hiking, jumping into the pool was great. We were four people, and the other two got a much larger room with a balcony than ours. Dinner was good, though there was no choice. Breakfast wasn't for me since I really don't like cake.

I just stopped by the bar, not the hostel, and really liked its spot beside the river. The two staff members were very accommodating.
