La Casa del Pendo

The location worked well for getting to Santander and the popular tourist spots, but the stay was a mixed bag. We were 10 people, eight adults and two children. The owner met us on arrival and explained the house and area. It has three bedrooms, an attic, two bathrooms and a kitchen-living room with a big table. The bathrooms were roomy and comfortable, both with showers, though the water pressure was low. For five days and 10 people, they left only one roll of toilet paper. We thought the mattresses needed replacing, and the extra pillows had no cases. The house is next to the road, the windows don't block much sound, and it was hard to sleep. The bedroom by the bathroom also had engine-like noises we couldn't identify. We thought it might be the boiler, but heard them even when it was off. We mostly just heated food in the microwave. There were only two dishwasher tablets and no trash bags. The large living room table was great for meals. When we needed the heating, the owner helped us over the phone. The patio is a decent size, but faces the road, and the gate feels a bit dangerous for children. We checked with the owner before having a barbecue, but a neighbor said it was prohibited, told us to put it out and threatened to call the police. The final night was awful. We spotted a rodent hiding in gaps in the curtained loft area of the attic. The owner blamed it on being in the countryside, but that doesn't mean there should be rodents in a vacation rental. We couldn't shut the attic off and use the rest of the house separately because it has no door and is open-plan.

The owners were incredibly friendly and attentive, and out of my three trips to Cantabria, this was the best. We stayed for a week. The place is spacious, functional and clean, with all the amenities we could need. It’s also very well connected to the highway, just 4 or 5 km away, so it’s a handy base for getting around. TOP

We had a wonderful weekend with friends and children. The rooms were spacious, clean and well equipped, and the location was perfect. Fantastic place, we'll be back.

We stayed for a whole week as a family, and the house felt so welcoming. It was just like the photos, new and very clean. The owner was lovely and kind, always attentive, and even greeted us with a sweet little gift. We'd definitely come back. Highly recommended.
