Hotel Santa Cruz

Breakfast made this a standout stop during our month in Spain. There was a generous buffet with hot bacon and fried eggs cooked in small batches, so the eggs were fresh. We also had plenty of bread, meats, cheeses, cakes and pastries, along with juice, spreads, and as much tea or coffee as we wanted. The condiments selection was enormous. I doubt you could try them all in a week. We chose a mountain-view room, though the outlook wasn't much better than the other side of the hotel. It was still lovely to see morning mist over the river and the sunset on a fairly clear evening. The room and bed were larger, which made the extra cost worthwhile for us, especially with a good breakfast-included rate booked early. The hotel was spotless, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Reception stayed open well into the evening. We had three great nights here. We originally picked it for being close to the bus station, and it turned out to be excellent value. It's an easy walk from there, mostly along pedestrian streets, with a ramp by the few steps leading up to the riverside. The hotel is on a quiet road, a short walk from the town center and the Roman Bridge. This was a lucky find, and I hope we get to stay again on a future trip to Spain.

The room was comfortable and the price fair, so I'd happily return. This rural hotel is just a few meters from the main road in Cangas de Onís. The women at reception were especially welcoming and kind, and gave us several ideas for things to do in town.

We'd stay here again. The room was clean, the AC worked well, the location was convenient, and breakfast was amazing.

For the price, this was a very basic hotel and far too expensive. Our so-called mountain-view room looked onto a public park and swimming pool, with no mountains in sight. The AC kept making a very loud noise every 10-20 minutes even when switched off, so sleeping was impossible. The room was small and unclean, with hairs on the bed, and the towels had holes. Breakfast cost another 10 euros per person on top of the already exorbitant rate. There was no parking available. We were told there would be plenty of street parking, but finding a space was difficult and we had to park quite a way off. We raised all of this with management, especially the AC, and received only a very small compensation. Even after that, it cost far more than much better places we stayed in elsewhere in Northern Spain and the Picos de Europa region. The price is absurd compared with the rest of Spain. I strongly recommend staying somewhere else.
