We especially liked how comfortable and cool the house stayed, and the pool was great to have around midday. With 14 of us, there was plenty of space, comfortable beds, and lots of spots to choose from on the terrace. The setting is beautiful, with pleasant shade during the day and cool evenings. We even spotted mountain goats from the viewpoint near the house in the afternoon. The kitchen had plenty of utensils. Javier was easy to communicate with, and Ben was very polite and helpful. Since Cástaras has no shop, it was handy that the baker brought bread to the house on Thursday and Saturday, along with a few other things. We’d happily come back with friends and family. Good value for the price.

We ate outside because the outdoor areas are so nice. Inside, the dining room was my least favorite part since it doesn’t get much light, though the living room with its fireplace is pleasant. The kitchen is roomy and has two fridges plus a freezer. The house worked fine for our group of 15, but it could use more bathrooms. There’s an accessible bathroom and two bedrooms on the ground floor.

The beds were the one real drawback for us. The springs pressed into our backs, so better mattresses would make a difference. Aside from that, the owners and Ben gave outstanding service. We had everything we needed in the house, including good heating, and enjoyed our four days there with family. The area is beautiful and dramatic, and if you’re lucky you may see mountain goats or birds of prey. Trevélez is close enough for a visit, while nearby Cadiar has a Carrefour for shopping. Cástaras is a ghost town. We’d definitely recommend staying here.

The house is large and cozy, and the views and scenery around it are beautiful. It’s very peaceful here, and the surrounding villages, including this one, have natural springs. We stayed for a weekend, and I did wish the place had been kept up and cleaned a bit better.
