Casa Convento La Almoraima

The forest walk is magical. It isn’t long, but it makes a lovely stop after the drive. Places like this are why it’s worth getting away from the cities, even though the pool was closed when we visited in the off-season.

The restaurant did a good job catering for vegetarians at lunch and dinner, and breakfast was a decent continental spread. The modern rooms have been tastefully redone, mixing older details with modern comforts. The setting is stunning, the service was wonderful, and the infinity pool is great.

The restaurant served a brilliant dinner and a solid breakfast, and the property is full of citrus trees. I spent two nights here recovering in pain after walking the GR7. It’s a lovely hotel, tucked away on a hill like you’d expect of a convent. The staff were friendly and gracious, and I was impressed by how composed they stayed around another guest I found extremely rude. Why four stars? The coffee. I’m a coffee snob, so bad coffee matters to me. La Almoraima needs HasBean Steve (www.hasbean.co.uk), the G.O.A.T.

Great rooms, facilities, location, breakfast, and nice staff. But the AC in our room didn’t work, so we didn’t sleep well. The staff didn’t seem interested and didn’t offer a discount for the faulty facilities.
