Apartamentos La Pérgola

The apartment block is kept in good shape, though cooking smells from other apartments were very strong in the common areas. The apartments themselves were clean, tidy, and in good repair. Getting around was easy: Parc Ribalta is right next door, public transport is nearby, the train station is a 10-minute walk, and the town centre is about 15 minutes away. We had expected two one-bedroom apartments with large terraces, one for us and one for friends. Instead, one had a terrace and the other had two bedrooms and a small balcony. It wasn't a big deal since we shared the terrace, which is large and pleasant, though the nearby aircon units brought noise and heat, and there were drain smells. Someone above was also smoking and dropping ash onto it. Still, it was nice to have the space for a siesta. We didn't cook, and the kitchen seemed short on utensils and basics like salt, pepper, or oil. There was an oven, microwave, kettle, and small stovetop coffee maker, but no other coffee machine. Singular Stays communicated over WhatsApp and could be slow to reply, though it was okay. We'd heard the apartment app could be tricky, so we used the keys from the lock-box. Check-in at 16:00 felt late, and there was nowhere to leave luggage. Our train arrived early, so we spent a couple of hours over lunch at the nice cafe in the park. One apartment was made available earlier, which helped. The washing machine in one unit didn't work. Singular Stays offered to send someone that day, which was good, but we declined and used the machine in the other apartment. Bring your own detergent, and note there's just a drying rack, no tumble-drier.

The apartment was horrible, nothing like the two photos posted online, and the customer service was worthless too. If I could give zero, I'd be more satisfied. I don't know how these guys are still around. I'll abstain.

I can't comment on the apartments themselves because our reservation was cancelled on the day we were due to arrive, when we were already on our way. They had said the access code would come at 4 pm. By 5 pm, with no code and still travelling to Castellón, I called. They said a power outage had just happened and our booking was cancelled. What a coincidence. They said they'd already informed Booking.com, but Booking.com had no record of it. We had to explain what happened several times before getting a refund. I'm sure the outage was caused by all the events in Castellón that weekend. I have no doubt about it.

The staff were wonderful, and the apartment was lovely. You're right in the city centre, with restaurants, shops, and all the basics just a few steps away. Such a good find, I'd definitely come back! 🥰
