Cal Baridà

Cava makes a great base for several lovely hikes, and the house is such a cosy place to return to. We especially loved the fireplace and the comfortable shared space. The hosts were attentive, communication was really easy, and the views are spectacular.

In the morning, Cadí Mountain filled the view through the big windows, just a few meters away. Its snowy face looked imposing, almost threatening above us, but the first light on it was hypnotic. After arriving at night, we were struck by the welcoming lights inside. February was cold, yet the house felt warm and homey. The comfortable, modern rooms and the rest of the house have a carefully considered design, with clean lines and tones and quality materials. During the day the outdoors feels part of the house, then at night it’s cosy around the fire.

The house is beautifully and freshly decorated, and the owners are very friendly, always ready with tips. Breakfast was simple but delicious, and dinner can be arranged on request. The setting and view are wonderful, and it’s a good place to spend a night or a few days relaxing without needing to keep driving down the mountain. Getting there takes some nerve, though. The six kilometres of hairpin bends are on such a narrow road that if a car comes the other way, someone may have to reverse. It’s a beautiful spot, but not for everyone.

We had a restful, active weekend with friends, and we’ll definitely return. The forest nearby is lovely for a stroll, too. Staying in this cosy house at the foot of the imposing Cadí mountain range was a wonderful experience. It’s so well cared for, and the views seem to flow right into the space, making Cal Baridà feel special.
