Hostal Gutierrez

I can’t stand this place anymore. The owner gets up every morning, sits by the window, and talks loudly with friends and other people. Their voices carry even with the windows shut, and she watches the guests from there too. There’s a service entrance at the back of the building, but she keeps using it to spy and snoop. It’s unbearable. The online booking price was €210, but when I arrived they asked for €245. Guests aren’t allowed visitors, and when someone came to check on me, they started yelling at them. Am I your slave or what?

I’ve booked this hostel in Ceuta twice now, and it suits my basic needs well. The bed is comfortable, the room is a little small, but I’m not there to sit around all day. The shower pressure is excellent, which I really appreciate here. Some guests came back late after drinking during this stay. Usually that wouldn’t bother me, but I needed to get to the dive center by 8 a.m., so the noise stood out. I’d still happily stay again.

The service was very friendly and helpful, and the shared bathroom and WC were very clean. The room was minimalist and small, but comfortable and very clean, with a really good bed. It’s quite far from the city centre, at least a 15-minute walk. Coming back takes about 30 minutes because of the hill. Not great, not terrible, maybe a 3.6.

It’s clean and quiet, but I don’t think it’s worth 30 euros in any country. My room was small, with a single bed and a chiffarobe, and there was no kitchen, fridge, or kettle for hot water. The rooms seem to share communal bathrooms. It’s at the top of a steep stairwell, though it seems like everything in Ceuta is. The hot water worked, and the bathroom lights use motion sensors, so watch out when you’re in the shower. To me, it feels more like a rooming house.
