Hotel Ceuta Puerta de África

The location in the heart of Ceuta is ideal, but the room didn't come close to what I'd expect from a four-star hotel. There was rust in the bathtub, stained doors, and furniture that looked like my grandparents had owned it for 50 years. It seemed neglected beyond the usual cleaning. We asked to switch rooms and they let us, but the replacement had exactly the same problems.

The hotel has a good location, but it feels like a one-star place now, even if it might have been three-star 20 years ago. It was dirty and dingy, with poor lighting. Several water bottles were partly empty and unsealed, so I suspect they may have been refilled. The safes didn't work in any of the rooms our group had, and the metal bed frame made the room feel like a prison cell. The parking listing was inaccurate, and there was no bar or lounge. There had also been a kitchen fire about six to eight months earlier, and the hotel seemed even worse since then. I had read older negative reviews and agreed with every one. This doesn't seem like a temporary problem.

The first room was dirty and looked used. Staff didn't believe us until we showed them. The replacement room had used water bottles too, so cleaning seemed poor. Other problems included dirty hallways, an overheated lobby, a faulty faucet, a broken safe, an outdated hair dryer and no "Do Not Disturb" sign. The parking was advertised inaccurately, there was no restaurant or bar, and the front desk wasn't helpful. They also didn't provide a hotel receipt. I would never recommend staying here. There are better options in Ceuta.

Check-in and check-out went well, and breakfast was good, but there were small broken things in the room and I could hear the neighbour every time they flushed the toilet. Almost €100 for a fairly small room with issues felt like too much. At €60 I'd give it four stars. Ceuta is a bit overpriced in general.
