Hipotels Barrosa Park

The room we were first given was noisy and had no working air conditioning, so we barely slept and it wasn’t what we expected. After we spoke with the very friendly reception team, they offered us a quieter room in another building, and a mechanic reset the air conditioning so it worked again. We’re grateful to everyone who helped. Meals were another bright spot. The breakfast and dinner staff were warm and courteous, and every evening they showed remarkable patience with guests who picked cheese and seafood out of the salads or behaved rudely at the buffet.

Even on rainy days, the staff found fun activities to keep the kids busy, and they loved their time here. We spent eight days at Hipotel Barrosa Park in December, during the off-season, and the hotel still arranged great entertainment for children. It’s in a perfect spot for seaside walks and sunsets. The indoor and outdoor pools were well kept, and there’s also a spa and wellness center. Live music in the lobby bar each evening added to the atmosphere. Our rooms were tidy and very clean, and housekeeping and service were excellent. The whole place is beautifully maintained and organized, with welcoming, kind, professional staff. Meals were fresh and hot, with outstanding quality and lots of vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. The kids especially liked the different sweets. We’d gladly return and recommend it to families, older guests, and couples.

This was our second visit, and we’d happily come again. It’s a calm, refined, well-organized place, mainly attracting Spanish and German tourists. We had half board and would definitely recommend it; the restaurant has a great range of choices. The pool, gym, and shared areas were immaculately clean. The hotel overlooks a lovely beach and feels peaceful, though there’s evening entertainment if you want it. Everyone on staff was friendly, helpful, and hardworking. Thanks to all the team at Barrosa Park for a lovely getaway.

The air conditioning never worked during our stay, even after we reported the problem several times. Our time at Hipoltes Barrosa Park was deeply upsetting. I was there with five other Black women, and we faced repeated racism from guests. People laughed, pointed, and called us “las negras.” Others asked where we were from; when we said London, they pressed us with questions like, “No, where are you really from? Jamaica? Africa?” One of the worst moments was someone telling us to come downstairs and dance, as if we were there for their amusement. The atmosphere often felt hostile and intimidating, and many guests, mostly German, made us feel unsafe, uncomfortable, and unwelcome. We raised it with the deputy manager, who apologized and asked us to report it and identify those involved if it happened again. But that was difficult when so many people were behaving this way. It also seemed clear the hotel knew the kind of guests it usually attracts. Most staff interactions disappointed us, though the deputy manager, the Tuesday receptionist who helped translate, and Nicola were genuinely kind. Based on what we experienced, I strongly advise Black travelers to avoid this hotel. It didn’t feel inclusive, respectful, or safe.
