Casa Reda - Posada de Viñón

The owners made us feel like family, which really set this place apart. They were so thoughtful, even warming my daughter’s bottle straight away and always with a smile. Breakfast was very good, and the room had everything we needed to rest well, including a very comfortable mattress. It was completely quiet, a real peaceful escape. Highly recommended!

I slept comfortably despite the mattress not being very comfortable, so that’s why I’m not giving five stars. The service was good, and the views from this nature-surrounded place are spectacular. It’s a lovely spot to switch off, with a beautiful terrace in the sunshine. The old house is well preserved and has a rustic style. Our room and bathroom were both spacious, though the room felt a little chilly despite all the blankets. Still, I’d recommend it.

We went through a Smartbox package just after Easter and found a really quiet place for a weekend in nature. The renovated manor house is in a small village near Potes, and there were only two other couples there at that time of year. Rooms were a good size, comfortable, and very quiet. Breakfast and lunch were simple but tasty, and the welcome was warm and friendly. We weren’t cold, and there were blankets in the room. I understand it may feel different in winter, though. Heating a large, isolated mountain house doesn’t cost the same as heating an apartment in a city, and it helps to know what to expect. That’s how it is in a small village. We’d definitely go back.

We left and found somewhere else to stay. The dining area they showed us was even colder and less welcoming than the room, and no alternative, such as an electric radiator, was offered. By then, the inn didn’t feel very welcoming, and the heating explanations weren’t going to solve the problem. We’d booked two nights with breakfast through a Smartbox voucher. When we arrived around 4:30 pm, the room had no heating. The person who greeted us said the radiators ran on heat from the fireplace, which he had just lit, so warming up would take a while. An hour and a half later they were still cold, so we raised it again. The manager said that seemed strange and went to check. A few minutes later the radiators became slightly warm, but not enough to heat a room that seemed to have been cold for quite a while. There was nobody else at the inn. I understand wanting to save money by leaving the heating off when there are no guests. But once someone arrives, comfort should come first, especially in winter in a mountain area like Potes. We were disappointed and felt we’d wasted our money, even though the surroundings are beautiful.
