I booked through Booking.com because I wanted a terrace and a view. It was meant to be a room for a couple, with me sleeping in the dining area. The first disappointment came as soon as I saw the supposed view. Then I found the sofa was broken and a bed had been put in the room. None of it matched what I’d been promised. When I complained, they said, “That’s just how it is. Booking.com uploads the photos, and we don’t promise views, haha.” The photos of the terrace I was meant to have weren’t even there. They still wouldn’t return the deposit, even though they hadn’t provided what they promised. After two hours talking to Booking.com, I finally got it back. Lourdes, the administrator, was incredibly rude, and the way she treated us was appalling. My first truly awful booking experience. I ended up trying to save the vacation from the car at midday, looking for somewhere else to go.

The apartment building is incredibly noisy. Street noise goes on around the clock, and jackhammers from nearby construction start at 8:00 AM. After midnight the ground-floor restaurant noisily packs away its outdoor furniture until 1:00 AM, just when you’ve started to fall asleep. Then you’re wide awake again. The kitchenware is terrible too. I wouldn’t recommend it.

MISLEADING ADVERTISING!!! This was a hellish vacation, so be careful, it isn’t what the photos show. At least, that was our experience. We couldn’t find the apartment they gave us in any of the Booking or Google photos. It was dark, damp, and had a disgusting smell. The sofa bed, which was supposed to sleep one person, was broken. We’d discussed and confirmed over WhatsApp that they would remove it and put a bed in the living room, but then where were the three of us supposed to sit there, on the bed? I laugh so I don’t cry. The tiny balcony looked onto a neighbor’s rubble dump. Lurdes, who was very rude, told us to take it or leave it. We argued for nearly two hours in Conil’s blazing sun. They had “kindly” asked us to wait in the hallway while they sorted it out with Booking, but they wouldn’t give us our money back. We were already exhausted after roughly seven hours on the road from Madrid. In the end, Booking got our money refunded, and at 7 in the evening on a Sunday we had to find somewhere else at the last minute. Luckily, we found a decent little apartment, apto Urta, through Booking again. This time we chose a private owner, just in case. But that’s another story.

We had a very happy five-day stay in Conil in June. The apartment was roomy and had a huge terrace, free Wi-Fi, and a great town-center location close to the beach. The staff were lovely, especially Viki, who was there whenever we needed anything. We’ll definitely return and would highly recommend it.
