The owner was extremely friendly and gave us lots of helpful tips. Good room, too.

It was okay.

Just perfect.

The room was a decent size, but in really poor condition. The bathroom was awful: black grout, a disgusting sink plug that costs only €10 at Leroy Merlin, and a shower door half off its hinges. Water leaked out, and even with towels on the floor everything got wet. There wasn’t a fresh roll of toilet paper either, just two half-used ones, and some towels had red stains. We chose the hostel because it was between Aracena, our first vacation stop, and Jabugo, where we planned to go the next day. It’s on a little square with a pharmacy, bar, and mini-supermarket. Parking was an adventure. We left the car at the village entrance and dragged our suitcases over the cobbled streets. The receptionist messaged on WhatsApp in the morning asking us to give her 30 minutes’ notice before arriving. At 5:02 PM we said we were nearby, but got no reply, so we waited in the car until 5:30. We headed to the hostel in case she was there, but she wasn’t. When I called at 5:49, she rudely said we should have told her 30 minutes earlier and that she’d be at least 15 to 20 minutes late. I said that was fine and I’d wait. When she arrived, she said the booking was for two even though there were three of us, including a two-year-old, again in an unfriendly tone. I’d messaged through Booking.com as soon as I booked to explain, but never got a reply to that either. Photo attached. She suggested two places for dinner, but both were closed. We walked 20 minutes to another bar that was open, only to find the kitchen wasn’t serving at this time of year. We bought a bag of chips and ate on the way. That part wasn’t her fault, but it’s worth knowing. I won’t be coming back.
