At the heart of Girona’s Old Town, La Lleona is a little stone lioness from the 12th century, and there’s a well-known local custom tied to it. The story goes that touching her bottom is meant to help you return to Girona, or stay there forever.

While wandering Girona’s old quarter, you can try a little leap and kiss the lioness on her rear!

The old Hostal de la Lleona dates back to the 11th century and had a heraldic lion on its sign. Kissing the lion’s bottom, or cul de lleona, was supposed to bring good luck. That’s been forbidden since Covid.
